Fermilab
Statement
Fermilab must be a welcoming place where all researchers can bring their authentic selves to perform the best research possible making best use of the lab’s facilities and expertise of its community. As a member of the UEC, I will bring my experience and leadership skills to further these goals.
I strongly believe in leadership by collaboration, empowering everyone to speak their voice while thoughtfully guiding to consensus. As a senior scientist and division director in the Computational Science and AI Directorate, and serving on many lab committees, I have a deep familiarity of the workings of the laboratory and have a broad understanding of our experiments and projects. Furthermore, I am very passionate about making our science accessible and exciting to the public, having given many lectures at area schools, libraries, and organizations on wobbling muons and how quantum computers work (without the hype!). In 2021 I was honored to give the Fermilab Arts and Lecture Series talk about the first Fermilab Muon g-2 result (on YouTube – skip to 33:15 to see my dogs trying to spin like muons).
Having served on the UEC for the last two years focusing on Government Relations, I am excited to run again and work on other aspects of the Fermilab Users and Affiliates community.
Fermilab is facing many challenges including dealing with budgets; striving for equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice; planning the next decade with the P5; and maintaining quality of life while adapting to new ways of working during post-pandemic. I am excited to be a part of the UEC as we search for solutions and reduce roadblocks to give every researcher the best experience and the ability to reach their full potential at Fermilab.
